Susan Reifman Kirk

I met Susan back in February of 1997. We both were exhibiting at a Midwifery Today conference in California. We formed a friendship during those long hours when midwives were in sessions and no one was there to look at our wares. I was deeply drawn to her gorgeous work, as it was evident to me that this was a woman of extreme talent and vision. I mentioned to Susan that I would be attending a LLL conference in the future and encouraged her to attend, I also told her that she would be a popular vender at LLL if she came up with some nursing themed necklaces. I mentioned to her that I'd love to carry any jewelry designs that she might come up with in my new catalog.

We met up again at LLL that summer, Susan had designed some beautiful stoneware nursing necklaces that Attachments has been carrying ever since. Our partnership has brought us together many more times at various conferences on the West Coast, and Susan just keeps coming up with more goodies for Attachments. Our business relationship has been mutually beneficial to say the least!

Susan is the mother of two children, Daniel, 11 and Serena, 8. She has a BA from College of Creative Studies UCSB and a teaching credential from CSUC Chico. Susan has taught art and science in middle school and has worked as an art specialist in private school.

Susan says this about herself:

"During my pregnancy with Daniel my art took on a different focus. Primarily a 2D artist, familyI began working with clay. While working with a group of women artists I created a Birth Bowl to honor and empower the birth of Daniel. After Serena's home birth, motherhood became my art's inspiration. I began selling my work at Midwifery and La Leche League conferences surrounded by midwives, pregnant moms and babies whom inspired me further.

As a stay at home mom I have had the privilege of being able to do art lessons in my children's classrooms over the years. As they have grown I've gradually worked my way back into teaching art part-time in a variety of settings. I continue to enjoy the balance of being able to create my own work and have the opportunity to share it with children."
