I am really happy to see this great product for siblings-to-be. Julie has done a fantastic job covering just enough detail for anxious brothers and sisters, involving them in the learning process that is pregnancy. I would imagine that keeping an older sibling involved in the pregnancy and providing answers to those burning questions our children have for us, would promote a better bonding experience with new baby as well as mom and dad. This great hardcover book is 286 pages, and includes four colored pencils to help you write, color and draw. There is even a "Mighty Measuring Tape" included to track babies growth.
![]() Attachment Parenting, Instinctive Care For Your Baby And Young Child by Katie Allison Granju I'm proud to be able to offer Katie's book here at Attachments. This long awaited book is a practical guide to today's most talked-about nurturing style and explains how some of today's conventional childrearing advice can be detrimental. Backed by Dr. William Sears, Katie urges parents to trust their own instincts on matters of breastfeeding on cue, minimizing parent-baby separation, avoiding sleep training for infants, and always responding attentively to your babies cries. This is the book you'll want to give at every baby shower you attend. PB
![]() The Red Tent, by Anita Diamant If you like historical fiction I think you'll like this book based on characters from the Book of Genesis. The red tent is a place where woman come to gather during their cycles of menses, birth and postpartum and even in sickness and dying. This book is told in the voice of Dinah, daughter of Jacob, a woman who gets a small mention in the Book of Genesis. Here she has an entire book written about her and her mothers, whom are four sisters married to Jacob. "Like any sisters who live together and share a husband, my mothers and aunties spun a sticky web of loyalties and grudges," writes the author in the voice of Dinah. "They traded secrets like bracelets, and these were handed down to me, the only surviving girl. They told me things I was too young to hear. They held my face between their hands and made me swear to remember." In this fictional account, Dinah grows up to be a midwife following in the footsteps of her mother/aunt Rachel. A perfect gift to give to the woman in your life who has a passion for reading . I found this book hard to put down, and at its ending I wished that I could open the book once more and have the story start again where it had left off. PB BF HOME
![]() She is Born, a Celebration of Daughters, by Virginia Kroll I got goose bumps reading this book. As the mother of daughters it spoke to me. It's unusual in that I would consider it a children's book as well as an adult's book. My girls enjoyed its multi-cultural detail and I loved it for its message describing the different paths that girls can take through life. I think this would be a great baby shower gift for a mother, but I also know your child would enjoy it too. She is Born is a cross-cultural celebration of the birth of a girl, with gorgeous illustrations and a wealth of information from around the world. HB
![]() Mother & Child, Vision of Parenting From Indigenous Cultures, by Jan Reynolds I could fill up a whole page talking about this little book. The photographs are stunning, shot by the author as she travels to the edges of the earth to capture her story. She speaks of a mother's place in many cultures and how we, as mothers, are the most important teachers of humanity. This book
is pro-homebirth, pro-breastfeeding, pro-mother. I will never put this book away - I want my children to memorize its stories, its images. PB BF
