I have long been a fan of Durga Bernhard, ever since her images graced the cover of The Doula magazine back in the 1980's. The Doula is long gone, but Durga's Art still shines on. I have offered her notecards here at Attachments for years - they are very popular. I'm really excited that Durga's work is offered in a calendar for 2009. It's going to be a very good year!

I'm happy to add four more of Durga's cards to our collection. You will find these images as well as others seen on our Notecards page featured in the calendar above. You will also find more of Durga's stunning work in the children's book A Ride on Mother's Back. As usual these cards are vibrant and moving, you won't want to give them a way. All the way from Australia comes this beautifully illustrated book, printed on postconsumer recycled paper.  A great little stocking stuffer! The Midwife's Apprentice, By Karen Cushman It's time to bring this old favorite back to Attachments. This is a great book for older children, ages eight and up. Although the book says twelve and up, a younger child can understand this story with some explanation. When my oldest daughter (now 20) was nine years old I read it to her every night before bed; she always begged me to keep going, way past our one chapter a night rule. I can also say that this was about the same time she discovered reading under the covers with a secret flashlight. This is a story of a homeless child who finds her true calling and her place in the world by watching and listening. It's a wonderful story of over-coming one's so-called shortcomings. This book is a Newbery Award winner.
