Ina May's Guide to Childbirth, by Ina May Gaskin
I'm goosebumps excited about this new book from the author of Spiritual Midwifery. I was especially thrilled to see Christiane Northrup's glowing stamp of approval on the cover of this book.

A big fan of both authors I can only hope that Christiane's endorsement will bring midwifery closer to the mainstream world. The beginning of the book starts with positive birth stories - no horror stories told here. Pregnant women will find intense strength in reading these tales. Ina May goes on in the second part of the book to discuss the powerful mind/body connection of pregnancy and childbirth, what happens in labor, and how women can let their bodies work for them in labor, naturally. You'll also find some incredibly positive statistics from The Farm's birth records, that indicate something some of us have known all along. Midwife attended births are certainly the safest way to go. PB
The Red Tent, by Anita Diamont
If you like historical fiction I think you'll like this book based on characters from the Book of Genesis. The red tent is a place where woman come to gather during their cycles of menses, birth and postpartum and even in sickness and dying. This book is told in the voice of Dinah, daughter of Jacob, a woman who gets a small mention in the Book of Genesis. Here she has an entire book written about her and her mothers, whom are four sisters married to Jacob. "Like any sisters who live together and share a husband, my mothers and aunties spun a sticky web of loyalties and grudges," writes the author in the voice of Dinah. "They traded secrets like bracelets, and these were handed down to me, the only surviving girl. They told me things I was too young to hear. They held my face between their hands and made me swear to remember." In this fictional account, Dinah grows up to be a midwife following in the footsteps of her mother/aunt Rachel. A perfect gift to give to the woman in your life who has a passion for reading . I found this book hard to put down, and at its ending I wished that I could open the book once more and have the story start again where it had left off. PB BF HOME

I am really happy to see this great product for siblings-to-be. Julie has done a fantastic job covering just enough detail for anxious brothers and sisters, involving them in the learning process that is pregnancy. I would imagine that keeping an older sibling involved in the pregnancy and providing answers to those burning questions our children have for us, would promote a better bonding experience with new baby as well as mom and dad. This great hardcover book is 286 pages, and includes four colored pencils to help you write, color and draw. There is even a "Mighty Measuring Tape" included to track babies growth.
